The DUP Cllrs on the district Council have said they are “Hugely disappointed” that the Festival of Flight isn’t going to be taking place in Newcastle this year.
In a joint Statement Cllr Kathryn Owen, Cllr William Walker and Cllr Glyn Hanna said they would be raising the matter at the next monthly meeting of the council at the start of March.
They want a firm date for the 2023 airshow to be inserted into the events diary for next year.
“The news of the postponement of the Festival of Flight will be devastating for local businesses, the many visitors to Newcastle and aviation enthusiasts” the Cllrs assed.
“As a group we are hugely disappointed that this event will not go ahead, it is always well attended and enjoyed by families right across NI and further afield.
“We understand the timeframe between the NI Executive lifting restrictions and the proposed date for the airshow was too narrow to arrange this event safely.
The DUP grouping plan to propose at the next full meeting that the date for next years Festival of Flight is firmed in the events diary, ensuring this event is safe for years to come.” The statement concluded.
