Day 4 of our Bray Aircraft Profile is the Cityjet – Superjet SJ 100 which will be making its debut in Bray after being delivered to City Jet earlier this year.

City Jet is an Irish regional airline with headquarters in Swords, County Dublin It operates mainly out of London City Airport and operates under its own brand as well as wet-lease services on behalf of its partner Air France. The airline was established on 28 September 1992 and started scheduled operations on 12 January 1994. It was founded by Pat Byrne and began operations between London City Airport and Dublin under a franchise agreement with Virgin Atlantic Airways

The SJ 100 Aircraft is very new to City Jet having only taken delivery of them this year. Development of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 began in 2000. Designed to compete internationally with its An-148, Embraer E-Jet and Bombardier CSeries counterparts, the Superjet 100 claims substantially lower operating costs, at a lower purchase price of $35 million.

The Superjet took its first flight on 19th May 2008 and was introduced to service 3 years later in 2011. So far 108 have been built and Cityjet have an order for 15 of the SJ100. The Superjet 100 has been described as the most important and successful civil aircraft program of the Russian aerospace industry.
